Yesterday Today Tomorrow

Pink's Dragon Tattoo - on her thighYesterday I went and had some tattoos added to my small collection.  People find it surprising that I want to have tattoos and they tend to ask me what made me start in the first place.  Well, it wasn’t just a whim… there is a story behind my ‘ink’.  I was touring with Pink in Europe in 2007 and I had been thinking about getting a tattoo (my first was a pathetic little sun, done with a girlfriend in 1997… we were so brave!)… a real tattoo and I decided that although I would never get a dragon, that the thigh, where Pink wears her most iconic piece, would be the place to do it.  I don’t have legs like hers either but hey, whatever. Metropolitan Hotel, Park Lane, LondonThis one is from a loooong time ago, before the road and during my first year in London (1997) when I was lucky enough to secure a job at the then super-chic Metropolitan hotel where the male employees wore Armani and the girls wore Donna Karan.  The in-house bar was the infamous members only Met Bar where all the A-listers went and you couldn’t get a membership unless you were in one of the 4 M’s… movies, media, modelling or music.  The in-house restaurant was Nobu (one third owned by Robert DeNiro) and man, was it busy!  Regulars included Tom and Nicole, Elle MacPherson etc.  It is the only restaurant I have ever been to or worked in that has commis waiters that are not allowed to take orders or make recommendations until they knew the menu inside out. Noosa Aerial View - Coastal ParadiseI said I would start from the beginning so that’s just what I am going to do.

I was working in Noosa at a restaurant called Jasper, on Hastings St and was given my leave after the busy season had ended come late January.  It was only days later that I was diagnosed with Ross River Fever and a pretty bad case, and that my life became difficult.  My joints seized up and ached constantly, I found it difficult to get out of bed, get in the car, I cried in pain just getting dressed, pretty much anything was a major effort.
